The Full Story

GONE BUT NEVER FORGOTTEON

All of our Equines, big or small are part of our family and each of them has their own quirks and personalities which brings us joy.

When they leave us, it is always with great sadness and we always remember them with love.

Johnny Johnston

Retired Metropolitan Police Horse

Johnny Joined us in 2012 following the North London Riots, he came with some injuries and some neurological issues.

During his time with us he spent 8 years at the our sister Charity Brantome Police Horse where he enjoyed retirement in the French countryside and entertained many visitors that came to see just him duringt the summer months.

Johnny was a huge part of our family and we miss him everyday.

Fiesta

Fiesta was one of our most loved horses at the Sactuary.

She came to us after being found in a Ford Garage Forecourt in Guildford where it seems she was dumped with some other horses in the middle of the night.

Fiesta has injuries and signs of neglect which included cigarette burns and twisted back legs which is  a common injury to street cart racing.

She spent 10 years with us and in that time she made friendships with other horses and a select number of people.

Fiesta is very sadly missed

Lewis

Lewis was the best friend of Johnny, they came as a pair and Johnny made sure that Lewis was looked after as he was a bit of a baby.

Lewis joined us in 2012 following the North London Riots.

He had some back issues and he was traumatised by the Riots so it took some time for him to trust us but once he did he was the most lovable horse we have ever had.

Lewis lived in France for 8 years with our sister charity Brantome Police Horse and he was definitely the most loved horse with our visitors and volunteers and we often joked that he thought everyone was there just to see him.

in 2021 he returned to Devon where he loved the cooler weather and a new life on the moors.

Amber

Amber was found on the moor with her daughter and was in bad shape.

Amber was a very timid pony with lots of trust issues but she was a big favourite with our volunteers who tried many ways to earn her trust.

With some specialist help we found out that she had poor vision in one eye and a back issue's which caused pain when touched but from this information we were able to work with Amber and know her limits which earn't us a degree of trust.

Amber is very missed by not only us but her companions Holly and Herbie.

Haidi

We lost Haidi in late 2023 and she is missing part to our Sanctuary as she has been with us for so long.

Haidi was a different type of resident and was only meant to be with us for a short while as her lovely owner was off to college but circumstances changed and she became a constant companion that helped new horses and ponies to settle and she showed them the ropes.

Her owner was happy for her to stay and has carried on being a big part of her life and made sure she had everything she needed.

Unfortunately old age crept up on Haidi but she left us a happy old lady.

Without your help and support, we simply wouldn’t be able to continue to do what we do. To rescue and rehabilitate horses, ponies and donkeys and offer visits to those members of our community that really benefit from time spent with our animals.

Your generosity makes this possible. Please help us to help them

Thank you from us all.
