Harriet and Edward are a comedic brother and sister duo who are very sweet natured and full of fun, they are the Ant and Dec of the Donkey World.

If you have the opportunity to visit, you will have the opportunity to get close to them, in order to cuddle and stroke them.

Harriet and Edward Heritage: Their ancesters were originally bred to turn grinding stones for grain, inside the peasant house's on the Mediterranean islands of Sicily and Sardinia. They were also used to carry water from village wells and supplies, up steep and narrow mountain passes for shepherds. There are 18th century wood pictures showing these small donkeys blindfolded and attached to the grain mill, walking in endless circles - doesn't bear thinking about does it! Thankfully these little donkeys are no longer used in this way, but sadly, they're also nearly extinct in their native countries!

The story of how we came to be Harriet and Edwards carers.

Originally Harriet and Edward came from a Petting Zoo in the west country of the Uk, they had a happy life but unfortunately the Petting Zoo was unable to continue for financial reasons and these two beautiful donkeys were in desperate need of a new home as quickly as possible which is where the Devon Horse and Pony Sanctuary stepped in.

In 2014, Harriet and Edwards made their move to France to be part of the Brantome Police Horses our sister charity. They had a lovely life and fitted in very quickly, they soon became a big favourite with the visitors and would show off for them.

In 2021, it was decided that Harriet and Edward deserved to retire from their public engagements and made the move to Devon to join our Oldies at the sanctuary. They are very much enjoying their quite life but are still cheeky and fun.
