Rio
Retired Metropolitan Police Horse
Rio joined us in 2020 after the first Covid lockdown and he has become a huge part of the Sanctuary family and is loved by visitors and all our volunteers.
Rio has a good Police record but unfortunately poor eyesight in one eye ended his career early and he needed a home and we happily gave him one.
It look some time to settle and find the right companion for him as he can be quite grumpy and because of his reaction to light he needs to have access to shelter at all times which other horses weren't happy about but he found his companion with Guardian who is quite happy to hang out in a field shelter all day.
One of Rio's qualities is he gives us good warning if it is about to rain as Rio will make a sudden gallop to his shelter at the first sign of a rain drop.
It has taken some time but he is loving retirement on the Moors and will happily go without a rug in the winter and have a full furry coat to keep him warm, he has also warmed up to visitors and loves all the attention.
